Public safety work in preventing injuries or death on the county beaches. Keeps beach and related areas clean of trash and debris. Routine work requiring a high degree of responsibility for the safety of bathers. Performs under the direction of the Lifeguard III.
Essential Job Functions:Essential functions are fundamental job duties. They do not include marginal tasks which are also performed but are incidental to the primary functions. Maintains order and discipline among bathers and other persons at the county beach area;
Safeguards public to prevent injury or loss of life by drowning;
Applies resuscitation and first aid when necessary;
Operates a two way radio to call for assistance in an emergency;
Assists in maintaining general appearance and cleanliness of the beach area, showers, restrooms, parking lot and other areas, keeping restrooms stocked with supplies;
Enforces rules to protect beach property;
Maintains records of activities, rescues and first aid reports;
Performs related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS: Must be able to swim, lift up to 75 pounds (dead lift) and drag 115 pounds 25 feet, walk, run, stand, stoop, bend, push, pull, and sit for long periods; manual dexterity. Uncorrected vision must not be worse than 20/40 in both eyes together, with acceptable color vision. Vision between 20/20 and 20/40 in both eyes must be corrected to 20/20 by glass or contact lenses. Hearing will also be tested for acceptable levels.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Work outside in extreme heat and sunshine.
KNOWLEDGE OF: Methods and techniques of first aid and resuscitation; beach rules and regulations.
ABILITY TO: Swim, lift heavy weights, up to and/or above 75 pounds and drag 115 pounds 25 feet; remain alert and attentive; administer first aid and resuscitation; stand, run, walk, stoop, bend, push, pull and sit for long periods; communicate firmly, effectively and tactfully with the general public; think, act quickly in emergencies; work with stress situations; perform duties requiring good physical condition and working in hot sunlight.
SKILLS: Swimming and lifesaving techniques.

Must have reached 16th birthday. Must possess and maintain a valid United States Lifesaving Association or equivalent lifeguard training and CPR certification.
ADDITIONAL: Lifeguard I base pay is $12.79 per hour, $13.44 per hour for applicants possessing a current Florida Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and/or additional pay per season experience.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
